Synopsis:
It takes an extremely hard working dedicated organization to make it in the business world today. Times are tight. People have less money to spend and there seems to be a constant barrage of bad news. Businesses who wish to succeed need to not only work hard, but also to constantly improve themselves and their organizations in order to achieve success. It isn't enough to just work hard, but they have to work smart and constantly look for ways to change and innovate.
But how is this accomplished? Instead of thinking in terms of flowery business speak like "continuous improvement" or "out-of-the-box" it helps to think in very concrete terms. The best three are customers, customers and customers. Yes, customers are the reason we are in business. They are quite simply the reason we exist at all. Every decision that is made in a business should be based solely on - how will this affect or make the experience better for our customers. If you aren't thinking this way then you are bound to fail
By making this promise, then all orders need to be in by 1:00 PM to guarantee same day shipping. This may work to get your employees home, but your customers are inconvenienced. My guess is that your customers have other options in the industry and that you have stiff competition. If you want to make it in the business world today then you need to meet and preferably exceed your customer's expectations. If this means half of your employees get home at 8 PM, then that's just the way it has to be. If your customers don't get what they want, then your employees won't need to worry about being home for supper because they will be out-of-work and already home.
Making it in today's business world is definitely not easy or convenient. Your customers have less money to spend and far more choices about where to spend it. Your organization need work hard, work smart and while doing so they need to think about the three most important things in business - customers, customers, customers.
