Synopsis:
Sexual Harassment is still one of the most important legal issues in the workplace today. Despite years of training and focus in the media, there are still incidences of harassment reported every day. Many times it occurs because employees receive no training or very little training, but even in companies where regular training sessions are conducted the rate of harassment is alarmingly high. It's imperative that as much emphasis be placed on making the training as effective as possible. This is where video comes in. Study after study has shown that the visual effect of video makes learning stick more than any other medium.
First of all, video gives viewers the opportunity to see workplace scenarios in action. Through the use of vignettes the majority of sexual harassment videos on the market show actual scenarios using seasoned actors. Students will see the vignettes and recognize situations that may have occurred in the past or they may see in the future in their own workplace. Just telling employees about these scenarios does not pack the same impact as the video. The memory of video will last longer and therefore so will the training.
Secondly, sexual harassment videos are researched and approved by lawyers. The training and research involved with producing the videos leaves no stone unturned. An instructor can inadvertently miss important points that could cause legal hassles later. A video never forgets.
Lastly, adults learn better visually. Younger adults were raised on YouTube and comfortable learning from video and adults in general need different mediums to break up the learning and keep their concentration. Videos provide this opportunity. Most video-based training programs provide an outline for an instructor led program that includes lecture, video, hands-on learning and discussion and tests.
Sexual harassment training is imperative to protecting the legal future of an organization. Video based learning is the most effective means for training on this important subject. Don't leave anything to chance and find a video to enhance your training and make the learning stick.
