All employees are afforded the right of protection from harassment and discrimination in the workplace. These rights extend to medical conditions as well, such as pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions. These rights also protect employees from retaliation when a complaint is filed.
In this course, we will explore the legal protections afforded to employees who are pregnant in the workplace and the steps you can take as an employer to reduce and even eliminate harassment or discrimination. We will also cover the specifics of various federal and state regulations, regardless of company composition.
Some of the federal and state laws we will cover in this course:
- The Pregnancy Discrimination Act
- The Americans with Disabilities Act
- The Family and Medical Leave Act
- The Fair Labor Standards Act
Treating an employee differently or unfairly based on pregnancy or related medical or childcare conditions is illegal and can place an employer in a serious situation. This is true on both a state and federal level. In this course, we will review the various laws that relate to pregnancy in the workplace and explore situations that might be considered harassment or discrimination.
Throughout this course we will also define pregnancy-related harassment and discrimination, demonstrate methods for removing such negative workplace behavior and provide solutions to curb such behavior in the future.
Upon completion of this course, you will have learned the various federal and state laws protecting pregnant employees from not only discrimination and harassment, but also from retaliatory actions. You will also learn of the various accommodations allowed under each of these laws and how you can best enact them to provide a safe and harassment-free work environment.
